At the Liberties 6k Road race on Thursday night last, run in support of St. James's Hospital, we had 5 runners from the Club. On a wet and windy course Barry Minnock was 5th in 18.53, Brian Furey 7th in 19.00, Michael Freeley 14th in 19.50, Ciaran Aylward 18th in 21.09 and Michael Murphy 19th in 21.39.. At last Wednesday's Graded track meeting in Santry we had some fine performances from our athletes. In the 100m Daryl Fanagan ran 12.57. In the 400m mens race Lee Byrne from WSAF AC ran another PB of 52.91 and in the ladies 1,500m newcomer Lynne Hennessy ran 5.14. For the men's 1,500m we had 8 competing. First home was Paul Stephenson in 4.03, followed by David Scanlon 4.07, Brian Furey 4.22, Aaron Browne 4.24, Killian Doherty, WSAF AC, 4.27, Aiden Cremin 4.46, Neil Skelton 5.00 and Tom Cuddy 5.02. At the National Juvenile Championships, we had four athletes competing in Tullamore. Richard Keogh returned to Tullamore and followed up his 800m bronze medal with a bronze medal in the 400m in a time of 50.20. Richard has since been selected to represent Ireland in the Celtic Games in August. Isabelle Doyle competed in the 80m on Saturday and the 200m on Sunday in the U14 category. Isabelle ran 10.87 and 28.54. Hugh Prendergast came 7th in the U16 200m running a time of 24.83. Isabel Mullarney followed up on her shot putt competition from the first weekend and competed in the U18 Javelin throwing a distance of 27.12m. Well done to everybody who took part in this year’s National Juvenile Competition.
Last Saturday we had three athletes competing in the first day of the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships in Tullamore. First up was Alannah Fasenfeld who ran very well in a high quality heat of the 60 metres hurdles and finished in a time of 11.89 seconds. In the shotput we had two competitors - Isabel Mullarney who was 4th in the U/18 competition with a10.72 metre throw and Alannah Fasenfeld in the U/13 age group who threw 11.89 metres. Early in the day Richard Keogh qualified for the final of the U/18 800 metres and ran a superb race in the final to come home in 1.59.85 in the bronze medal position. Also in Tullamore, David Scanlon was second in the 5000m U/23 event in the GloHealth Junior & U23 Championships yesterday, in a time of 16.46.50. Well done to all.
