Conditions in Kilbeggan on Sunday 22nd.were not for the faint-hearted, due to gale-force winds and driving rain. First up for the club was Tom McGrath in the boys under 12 who ran very well to the finish. Next up was the boys under 16 team of Ian Rankin, David Scanlon, Sean Hayes and Paddy O'Donoghue. The pace was relentless from the outset but the lads stuck to their task right up to the end of a very gruelling race. The team was 9th.overall. Ian was 31st., David 44th., Sean 65th. and Paddy 111th. Ian and David both scored on the Dublin team which finished in the silver medal position. The boys under 18 race started at a more even pace, with Michael in the leading group and Jack just at the back of this. When the breakaway occurred the field was stretched out in a very short space of time. Michael dug deep to finish a brilliant 5th.[he can run under 18 next year also].Track specialist Jack had a storming finish, passing 4 or 5 in the last 100 metres,to finish a very creditable 28th.At the time of writing we are not aware of possible team medals in this age group. This information will be posted later.Michael Treacy and Jack Mc Loughlin scored on the Dublin Under 18 silver medal winning team. Four national county silver medals in total [and Michael very close to an individual medal] was a great haul from very competitive races and augurs well for the future of the club. We had two representatives in the senior inter county race where Barry Minnock, running for Offaly, finished 13th. while Gearoid O'Connor was 87th. Details at Athletics Ireland website Link
