This weekend sees our club’s leading athletes compete in the National Senior Track & Field Championships in Morton Stadium in Santry.
Competition is expected to be extremely high this year and places in Sunday’s finals or top 8 finishes in the longer events will be excellent results for our athletes if achieved.
In the 800m, Julian Kuppler fresh from a swift 1m54s in last weeks IMC will be hoping to reach Sunday’s final and also watch out for the fast improving Brian McCabe who will be hoping to run close to the 2 minute mark.
In the 1500m, Eoin Flynn returns to the Nationals after missing the last two summer seasons with groin tears. Eoin ran a PB of 3m54s in last weeks IMC so is returning to top form at the right time and will be aiming to make Sundays 1500m final.
In the 5000m, Barry Minnock will once again run the double and no doubt give 110% as he did last year over the 5k and 10k. Barry will have the Pocket Rocket Paul Fleming in close company in the 5k where Paul will be hoping for an excellent performance to set him up nicely for the upcoming Europeans Masters championships.
Rathfarnham athletes will also be targeting team glory over the 10k with Michael Freely and Louis McCarthy joining Barry in the 10k team championship.
Best of luck to all of our athletes competing in what is the pinnacle of the country’s track racing season.
A full programme for the weekend is available on the AAI website.
