Well done to Club athletes Mark Ryan, Kevin Keane Donna Mahon and Michael Treacy who competed for Ireland in the 25th World Mountain Running Championships near Madesimo in Northern Italy. Both Ryan and Keane ran strongly and battled all the way and helped the Irish team achieve 14th overall out of 23 countries which is the best team placing since Malaysia in 1999. Mark Ryan finishing in 86th (64:54) & Kevin Keane finishing in 108th (68:33). Donna Mahon ran bravely in the womens race and finished 45th (50:40). The Irish team finished 8th overall out of 14 countries. The team placing was our first top ten finish since 1991. Michael Treacy had a storming run in the Junior Mens race to finish 43rd (44:48). Donna Mahon was second lady home in todays Pear Izumi 10k road race and showed no ill effects of her World Mountain Championships run in Italy last Sunday. She was 24th overall in a time of 37.00. Best of the men were Paidraig MacCriostail 6th (34.09), Willie Morris 7th (34.23), Paul McGovern 8th (34.25), followed by Tracy Jennings (40.12), Louise Cassidy (40.13), Tony Connolly (41.26), Heiner Schuster (43.09), and Maria Connolly. Caitriona Jennings wins her first National Senior title by winning the Ladies race in the AAI National Half Marathon through the Streets of Ballybofey and Stranolar in Donegal today. Barry Minnock was 5th in the Mens race. Other highlights include two Mens Masters team Titles with John Brennan, Joe Casey and John Farrelly making up the M35+ team and Adrian Tucker, John McHugh and Terry Clarke winning the M50+ team title. Joe was 3rd over 45 and Adrian was 2nd over 50. Times were Barry Minnock (68.23), Michael Freeley (73.19), Paul Fleming (76.26), Willie Morris (76.44), Jason Reid (77.27), John Brennan (77.25), Joe Casey (78.06), John Farrelly (78.46), Caitriona Jennings (79.12), Brendan Hogan (79.21), Owen McLoughlin (79.26), Adrian Tucker (81.38), John McHugh (84.41), Terry Clarke (86.33) and PJ Claffey (97.06). Some good results were recorded by Club Athletes in the 15km. Warriors Run in Strandhill, Sligo. The race included a start on Strandhill beach, followed by a difficult climb up Knocknarea Mountain and around Queen Maeve's Cairn. Peter O' Farrell was 8th in 59.05, followed by Turlough Conway in 6th (59.11). Well done to all. Full results on Warriors website. Link
