National 10k Road Championships, BHAA and National Juvenile Indoors, 11- 12 April 2026

It was a big weekend of racing for the club! On Saturday our U14 Girls at the National Juvenile Indoors in Abbotstown finished in 7th place in 1:54 in the 4x200m Relay.

At the national 10 k championships in the Phoenix Park on Sunday Kevin Donagher ran a brilliant 32:27 and won National Silver M40. Gerry Boyle won gold in M60 Category, Tom Cuddy won M60 Silver, Vanessa Sallier – F55 National Silver and Laura Ryan – F35 National Silver. Our F50 Team won Bronze for Claire Shiels, Donna Mahon & Vanessa Sallier. We had huge runs too from Dermot Shiels, Nunzio Perrone, Esther Lawlor and Aisling O’Connor.

At the BHAA 6k in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday we had a double win for Rathfarnham WSAF. Edel McCreery won the ladies race and Patrick Mac Gabhann won the men’s race. Paul Fleming was 3rd overall. There were category wins for Donal Murphy, Sean McCreery and Paul Fleming. Well done to all.

National Masters Cross Country, Abbotstown, Sunday 16th February 2026

Well done to all our athletes who took part in the national masters cross country championships in Abbotstown on Sunday 15th February 2026. The highlights from the M65+ race include a brilliant national silver medal for the M65+ team (Gerry Boyle, Martin Kelly and Brendan Hogan), Sheelagh Jones (Bronze F65) and Sean McCreery (Bronze, M60). Also in the M65+ race Donal Murphy was 23rd., Eoin Murray 34th and John McHugh 37th. In the M35+ race Matthew Keane was 8th., Sean McCreery 78th and also scored on the Dublin Gold medal winning team and Jonathan Hughes was 92nd. Well done to all.

Dublin Masters and Intermediate Cross Country Championships, St Anne's Park Raheny, Sunday 04th Jauary 2026

Well done to all our Club athletes who ran in the Dublin Masters Cross Country in St Anne's Park, Raheny on Sunday 04th January and on winning the Pat Hooper Cup for the first time from Host Club Raheny Shamrocks. Also well done to Edel McCreery who won the first race of the day and led from early on in the the womens Intermediate race. In Baltic conditions, our crew stormed Raheny and brought home many category titles which gave us sufficient points to win the trophy . Medal Mayhem in the cold was the order of the day and the results were:

Intermediate Women: Edel McCreery braved the frost and brought home gold!

M50+ Men: Paul Fleming grabbed individual gold, with team silver thanks to Paul, Sean McCreery (First M60), Dermot Shiels and Edwin Keville (Silver M60), Paul Gilligan and Pearse Coyle. Ice in the veins, medals on the chest.

M65+ Men: Team Gold for Tom Cuddy, Gerry Boyle, Martin Kelly, Brendan Hogan, Sean Doyle, Donal Murphy, Eoin Murray and Terry Clarke. Tom also picked up individual silver.

F50+ Women: A brilliant 4th place and crucial points for the Pat Hooper trophy

Donna Mahon, Vanessa Sallier, Sheelagh Jones, Catherine Kelly and Miriam McCormack – heroes in hats and gloves.

F35+ Women: Louise Gaffney led the charge with individual 3rd and team silver! Backing her up were Catriona Dowling, Gráinne Black, Laura Ryan, Claire Shiels, Lorraine Nolan, Amy Cooke, Esther Lawlor, Lian Brady, Louise Cassidy and Keren Ziv.

M35+ Men: Matt Kane continued his red‑hot form (the only warm thing in the park today) with silver, and Dave Power finished a brilliant 4th. Their efforts sealed team silver and locked down the Pat Hooper Cup. Also flying the flag were Patrick Marjolet, Ciaran Aylward, John McCauley, Greg Byrne, Richie Doran, Ross Griffin, Denis Everett and Sean McCarron.

At the Dublin City Marathon on Sunday 26th October, we had 21 finishers from the Club who were led home by Dave Power and Matthew Keane. Their times were Dave Power (2.30), Matthew Keane (2.30), Arthur Callan (2.44.32), Liam Dunne (2.45), Gal Hernandez (2.55), Tom Cuddy (3.00, 2nd M65), Michael Murphy (3.04), Gerry Boyle (3.06, 3rd M65), Declan Quinn (3.07), Martin Kelly (3.07, 4th M65), Denis Daly (3.10), Rodney Doyle (3.12), Gavin Murphy (3.14), Jos Lalor (3.13), Dermot Shiels (3.16), Eilis Connery (3.19), Lorraine Nolan (3.27), Maria Brennan (3.44), Nunzio Perrone (3.45) and Michael Maloney (4.05). Well done to all. Many thanks to all the volunteers from the Club who helped out at the stewarding in Rathgar.

At the Leinster Novice Cross Country in Kilkenny on Saturday 25th October Edel McCreery was second home in the Women’s Novice Cross Country race in 15.11. Well done to Edel.

What a great day the McCreery family had in the Phoenix Park on 12 ^th October when Edel won the women’s Dublin Novice Cross Country title over the 4,000m course, in style over the last lap to claim the 2025 Dublin Novice cross country title. In the Men’s race over 6,000m Ryan O'Neill came second to claim the silver medal as he picked up several runners over the last lap. Both Edel and Ryan have come up through our juvenile ranks, and it’s amazing to see them shine at senior level. Massive congrats to them and their coaches — your hard work is paying off! Other Club finishers in the women’s race were Grainne Black, Sophie McGrath, Laura Mills, Amy Cooke, Sarah- Anne Murphy, Clare Shiels and Catherine Kelly. The women’s team finished 4 ^th out of 10. In the men’s race other Club finishers were Jared Murray, Kieran Alyward, Richie Doran, Sean McCreery and Richard Deeney. The men’s team finished 7 ^th out of 13 teams. There was also a huge turnout of all our juvenile athletes at the Dublin Even Age Cross Country Championships in the Phoenix Park. We’re so proud of every single runner. A special congratulations to all those who’ve qualified for the National Even Age Cross Country Championships in Derry on Sunday, November 23 ^rd .

Report on Rathfarnham 5k Road Race, Sunday September 28th, 2025 – Club athletes

The 28th edition of the Rathfarnham 5k delivered excitement, elite performances, and a flurry of club medals on a day that also hosted the Dublin 5k Championships. Efrem Gidey smashed the course record in a jaw-dropping 13:49 (2:46/km)! Club Highlights include Ryan O’Neill led the club home in 14:47 (15th overall) and won MJ Gold. Patrick MacGabhann ran a superb 15:02. Other results were Daire Sullivan – 15:15, Jared Murray – 15:26, Paul Fleming – 4th scorer for our Dublin team bronze, also won M50 Gold (28 years running this race!), Liam Dunne – 16:11 in a stacked M40 field. Junior Stars were Aidan O’Connor – 16:43, Soren Doyle – 17:23, Cohen Doyle – 17:46, Alexander Dunne Martin – 19:0, Lily Lawlor – 21:25 and Kate Connolly – 21:35. Masters results were Patrick Marjolet – M45 Gold (16:27), Marc Fitzachary – M45 Bronze (16:45), Clare Shiels – F45 Silver (20:10) and Louise Gaffney – F35 Gold (17:27). Report on the Ratoath Half Marathon, Saturday 13th September 2025

We had six members running in the Ratoath Half Marathon on Saturday 13th September, which finished on Fairyhouse Racecourse. We had a number of pbs to boot as well. Dave Power got that elusive sub 73 with a time of 1:12:54 which is a personal best. Dave was 7th overall and 3rd M40. Micheal Murphy also ran a lifetime best of 1:22:12. Martin Kitson was home just behind Micheal in 1:22:25, another lifetime best. Gavin Murphy knocks minutes off every race he does and once again ran a personal best of 1:25:23. Ronan Byrne is starting to get his fitness back, so he’ll be glad to knock out a 1:27:51. Finally, Esther Lawlor ran 1:36:36, best HM time in a while, so all in all a great day for all of our athletes. Well done to you all.

Report on Lucan 5-mile Road Race, Sunday 7th September 2025

The Dublin 5-mile championships, hosted by Lucan Harriers took place on Sunday 7th September, with Rathfarnham WSAF taking home a number of medals. Patrick MacGabhann finished fourth overall in a time of 25:08. Aisling O’Connor picked up a senior bronze medal in 31:31. Clare Shiels collected a silver in the F45 category. Paul Fleming won gold in the M50 category. Sean Doyle strolled home to win M65 category. Lian Brady, Clare Shiels and Aisling O’Connor took the bronze in the F Open team event. Club times for the 5 mile race were: Patrick 25:08, Paul 28:14, Aisling 31:31, Clare 34.40, Sean 34:44 and Lian 37:48. Great medal haul - well done to you all.

DSD Masters Track and Field - Saturday 30th August. We had a great group of masters athletes take to the track and field in blustery conditions. Vanessa Sallier kicked us off in great style with a superb win in the One Mile walk. She also won the three-legged race with Clare Shiels. Our brilliant juvenile coach Orla Murray carried the club on her shoulders in the field events, throwing 7.15 metres in the shot put and jumping 2.75 metres in the long jump. We then jumped to the middle distance runs where Caitriona Dowling had her best run of the year running 2:25 in the 800m. Louise Gaffney was up next in a really competitive 1500m where the wind had really picked up and still ran 5 mins on the nose. Dave Reidy ran the 1500 guest race in 4:56 as well. Then to the relay: 4x400 where Clare took the team off on the first leg, passing over to John McCauley who handed over to Gráinne Black. Pearse Coyle took anchor leg and got the team a third-place finish in 4:48. Great running overall.

National Half Marathon, Tullamore: Saturday 30th August - We had the Half marathon National Championships today down in Tullamore with a sensational performance by Matt Kane to finish third overall (1:10:48) and a national bronze medal to boot. Colm Murray was next up finishing 9th in a competitive M55 field with a time of 1:24:51. A superb 1-2 Gold, Silver finish in the National M65 for the evergreen Tom Cuddy and Gerry Boyle (1:26:57, 1:27:03 respectively). Martin Kelly finished fifth in the same age category with a time of 1:34. Serious time considering Martin has had some real injuries this year. Donal Murphy also had a great run and finished 7th in same age category with 1:36:07. 4th overall in the M50 Team category which is amazing considering 3 of our athletes are in the M65 category and our only M55 is 59.9999 I’ve been told. Catherine Kelly who won the F60 in 1:55:21.

Greenway Half Marathon, Waterford, Saturday 30th August. Dave Power finished 8th overall (1:15:56). Denis Daly also ran with a super fourth place finish in the M50 age category in a time of 1:28:24. The weather down south wasn’t any better than Tullamore.

Oylegate Half Marathon Wexford, Sunday 31 ^st August - Well done to Ross Griffin who was our soul occupant of the undulating Oylegate Half Marathon. Ross finished 16th overall in a time of 1:25:33 in windy conditions.

Paul Fleming finished second in the BHAA Abbotstown 5k last Wednesday 27th August.

On Saturday 16th August we had the Frank Duffy 10 miler. Gavin Murphy going from strength to strength took nearly one minute off his pb with a time of 1:03:49. Mick Stuart also ran a great time of 1:11:20.

Sunday 17th August, we had the Kilcock 10 from 10 with some smashing times. Alexey Marchenko was fourth overall with a time of 54:03 (and €50 for his troubles). Gael Hernandez donning the new pink Rathfarnham singlet he’s trying outran 58:37 which was a new pb. Micheal Murphy ran 1:02:46. Ross Griffin ran 102:59 and Denis Daly ran 1:06:52

Across the way in Athy, Edwin Keville won the 050 RunAthy 10k in 39:52. Brilliant performance after a tough year with illness and injury.

Dave Power ran up the Galtymore mountain in the latest IMRA. Dave finished 6th in a race with a total elevation gain here of over 1100 metres.

Having made his first 400m national final this year, Stephen Gaffney took over half a second off his club record and PB at the most recent Stratford Speed meet on 17 ^th August at the London Olympics campus running 46.94s. Former Irish national 100m champion, Stephen has made fantastic progress this season over the 400m not having competed much in this event previously. Stephen also ran the 100m event at Stratford running a season’s best of 10.66s. One man who will not want the season to end. Stephen trains with an elite sprint group at UCD alongside fellow club members Cillian McCabe and Isabelle Doyle all of whom have done the club proud in sprint events over recent seasons.

We had the Celbridge AC 5k on 21st August. Eoin Flynn back home finished 9th overall in a time of 15:24. Pearse Coyle finished in 18:44. Richard Deeney had a great run with a time of 18:49. Clare Shiels in her own competition with husband Dermot to see who can run the most races in a calendar year ran 20:35. Esther Lawler wearing those V (1980s miniseries) like sunglasses finished in 21:16. Well done to all who ran.

Dublin Graded Meeting 8, Morton Stadium, 30 July 2025

In the 1,500m Louise Gaffney ran 4.58, Caitriona Dowling 5.03, Aisling O'Connor 5.14 and Sophie McGrath 5.34. In the mens 1,500m Aiden O'Connor ran 4.15 and Richard Deeney 5.21. A great day was had on Saturday July 26th down on the track in Tullamore by Rathfarnham WSAF athletes. Caitriona Dowling won the F35 in the 800m. Louise Gaffney then won the F35 1500m. Sheelagh Jones won Gold and SIlver in the 3000m and 1500m respectively in the F65. Serious going. Dermot Shiels won M50 silver in the 5000m and Tom Cuddy was just pipped at the post to finish fourth in an unbelievably competitive M65. Away from the track and over to the field, Vanessa Sallier nailed down a bronze in the F50 at the High jump and Hammer.

Pipped at the post on Thursday 24 ^th July was our Kevin Donagher in the Liberties 4 mile in the south inner city, who finished second in 22.06. Super results everyone.

Weekend Roundup, 17 – 20 July 2025

At the BHAA DCC 5k in Irishtown/Ringsend on Thursday 17 ^th July our own Matt Kane won the overall race in 15.55 and we had several category wins and places. Sheelagh Jones won the F65 category, Sean McCreery won the M55 category, Vanessa Sallier was second F50 and Donal Murphy was second M65. We also had Alex Fraser, Terry Clarke and Catherine Kelly running well.

Another great run from Colm Murray in torrential rain in the National 10-mile road championships in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 20th July. Colm was 5th in his age category in 64.25. Tom Cuddy won the M65 age category in 65.16. Other notable runs were had by Donal Murphy, 74.12, was 7th in M65, Nunzio Perrone ran 72:20 and Martin Kelly ran 93.39. The M50+ team were fourth.

Also on Sunday 20 ^th July Kevin Donagher won the Nurney 5k in Kildare in 16.48. At the AAI Games in Carlow on Sunday 20 ^th July Alexey Marchensko was third in the National 10,000m track championships in 34:26.51.

Dublin Graded Meeting 7, Lucan Track, 16 July 2025

They competed over 3,000m (Dermot Shiels 10.01, Michael Murphy 10.08, Tom Cuddy 11.03, Richard Deeney 11.32; Aisling O'Connor 10.50 and Sophie McGrath 12.01), 800m (Caitriona Dowling 2.25) and in the shot put (1st Isabel Mullarney 8.79m, Orla Murray 6.89m and Vanessa Sallier 5.44m). Roundup of races over weekend, 10 - 13 July 2025

Docklands 5k - We had a number of Rathfarnham WSAF Athletes running in the Docklands 5k on Thursday 10 ^th July 2025, with some age category wins and podium finishes, coupled with the return to racing of our rebel county man Donagh Powell. On a very hot sunny evening, the race went off at a blistering 24deg with the evergreen Dave Power won the M40 category in a time of 16:30. Marc Fitzachary was 3rd M45 in a time of 17:37. Denis Daly won the M55 category in a time of 19:41. Sophie McGrath was 24th female home in a time of 20:53. Micheal Murphy ran 17:50, John McCauley ran 17:52, Donagh Powell ran 18:06. Richard Deeney ran 19:17 and Sean McCarron back from injury ran 22:25.

At the Morton Games on Friday 11 ^th July Ryan O’Neill ran well in the Under 20 mile.

Denis Daly has only gone and done it again creating more work for the admin team here at Rathfarnham WSAF. The race was Le Mike Bishop Agonac 10k, Dordogne, Bastille day run on 14 ^th July 2025. In his own words ‘I seem to be less slow than everybody else in 35°C, 85% humidity and 220m climb!’

Great experience for our under 14 girls (Siún Broderick, Rosie Shields, Alice Wilson and Siobhan Murray) getting to the nationals juvenile Track and Field Championships on Sunday 13 ^th July in the 4x100m relay. There was very tough competition out there and they did the club proud. Two of the team are also eligible to run U.13s as well. Another big shout out to Ciara MacDonnacha who was 12 ^th in the U17 long jump in 4.44 metres.

Roundup on races over weekend, 04 - 06 July 2025

Races in Clontarf always advertised as flat and fast. They forget to mention the wind. It didn’t stop Colm Murray rocking up in the Clontarf Half Marathon on 5 ^th July 2025, the man who loves to race every week. Punishing conditions however, with a strong head wind from 9k home coupled with high humidity. Not a great mix. Still another age category podium finish in second place and a sub 90 (1:29:28). Very impressive stuff.

NATIONAL U20 and U23 track and field Championships took place in Tullamore on Saturday 5 ^th July and Rathfarnham had 2 representatives. Ryan O Neill ran the U20 1500m and it was a tactical race from the off. The Tallaght athlete and eventual winner Cormac Dixon made a decisive break half way through and field did not go with the move which meant that the other medal spots would be decided in the final 300m. Ryan bravely took on the lead at that point but was narrowly edged out of the medals in the final strides to finish a commendable 5th in 4.02.5. Jared Murray took to the start in a very strong heat including eventual winner Nick Griggs in the U23 800m and just missed out on the final finishing 9th overall in 1.57.17. Ryan will compete in the Morton Games on Friday whilst Jared will aim for national seniors’ championship in a few weeks’ time.

Well done to speedster Ellie Oldrey who came third in the U16 80m hurdles in the national championships in June. 11.98 is a serious time. Very unlucky to clip the hurdle towards the end. She also romped home to victory in the rain in the schools 200m in an insane time of 25.65.

Another busy week is of summer activities. Thursday 26th June we had Liam Dunne, 12th., run a find time of 34.38 at the Clonee 10k.

Friday 27th June we had the usual large participation seeking PBs in always fast St Cocas 5k with honourable mention to first home busy Dad of 3 Gaël Hernandez running his first ever sub 17m. in 16.57. Great runs were also had by Dermot Shiels 17.23, David Reidy 17.36, Michael Murphy 17.53, Gavin Murphy 18.42, Michael Steward 19.28, Claire Shiels 19.59, Ester Lawlor 21.31, Paul Stephenson, Lian Brady 22.15, and John McCabe 22.51.

Saturday 28th June saw action switch to ultra fast track Irish Milers event in Santry stadium with Ryan O Neill again running 1500m sub 3.54 and Jared Murray lowering his 1500m mark sub 4.02, fast running lads.

Today Sunday 29th June saw more runners take to start for national 5m road in Phoenix Park with David Power first thru in a remarkable fine PB time of 26.40. Also category wins for Tom Cuddy 31.33 and Shellagh Jones 36.19. Great runs were also had by Paul Fleming 28.58, Colm Murray 30.54, Tom Cuddy 31.33, Terry Clarke 39.30, and Richard Deasy 32.55.

Meanwhile we had no less than 7 juveniles make the trip to the prestigious annual National Championship in Tullamore on Sunday 29th June where Ellie Oldrey again came away with medal taking bronze in U16m 80m . Also we had Lucy Blessington run the 800 metres in 2.25, Callum Kelly ran in the U17 110 metres hurdles. Aoibheann Nic Mathuna was 8th, throwing 9.25 metres in the U15 shot put. Euan Bale U15 ran the 80 metres hurdles in 13.80 seconds. Well done to all.

Well done to all our athletes who competed at the Dublin Graded Meeting 6 at Morton Stadium on Wednesday 25th June 2025. In the 1,500m Tom Cuddy ran 5.18. Aisling O'Conner ran 5.18 as well in her 1,500m and Sophie McGrath ran 5.31. In the womens Javelin Isabel Mullarney was 5th and threw the javelin 26.55m. In the shot she was 3rd with a 8.65m throw. Some great results for Rathfarnham WSAF AC athletes in the Michael Manning Memorial Dunshaughlin 10k 2025 on Saturday 21st June in very hot conditions with Gerry Boyle (M65) and Colm Murray (M55) both winning their age categories, Dov Kremer (M60) 2nd in his, Dermot Shiels 4th in M50, Alexy Marchenko 5th in M40, and David Reidy 19th in M45. At the Viking Half Marathon in Waterford on Sunday 22nd June David Power placed 5th in 1:14 and Donal Murphy 114th in 1:38.

At the UCD track meeting on Wednesday 18th June Jared Murray took 2nd place in 800m lowering his PB to 1.55. Good luck to club juvenile athletes taking part in the national championships in Tullamore over the next 2 weekends.

Well done to all our athletes who ran at the Dublin Graded Meeting 5 at the DSD Track on Saturday 14th June 2025. We had some excellent performances over 3000m and 800m. Aisling O'Connor and Caitriona Dowling (11.22) ran in the 3000m. In the mens 3000m A race Aiden O'Connor ran 9.20, while in the C 3000m race Gael Hernandez ran, along with Dermot Shiels (10.06) and David Reidy (10.22). In the 800m Sophie McGrath ran 2.43. In the mens 800m Ryan O'Nelll ran 1.55 and Jared Murray 1.57. At a track meeting in Malta over the weekend Lee Byrne ran 1.58 to come second in an 800m.

All-Ireland Schools Track & Field Championships

A fruitful weekend for Rathfarnham WSAF AC sprint and middle distance athletes at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships in Tullamore on Saturday. In the 200m Junior Girls race Ellie Oldrey was fast away from the blocks leading around the turn and powered down the home straight away from the field to claim a clear win and brilliant gold medal in a PB run of 25.65s, likely a club record. Ryan O Neill took to the start for the concluding race of the day in the senior boys 1500m. In a tactically run race Ryan lead through the opening 800m and signed off on his schools career in a hard fought final lap taking 2nd place and silver medal in a time of 3.59. Aoibheann NicMhathuna also competed in thd Junior girls shot out throwing 9.15. A fantastic showing of young talent from these young athletes and great credit to sprint coach John Hayes, endurance coach Paul Fleming and throws coach Angela Mac Mhathuna.

Other races:

Sprint club athletes competed at the Stratford Speed meet in London with Stephen Gaffney running a blistering 10.69s over 100m and Isabella Doyle 26.14 in 200m.

The Slieve Donard. Rathfarnham runners took on the oldest mountain race in Ireland. Slieve Donard celebrated its 80th edition this year, with an up and down race from Newcastle up to the summit at 853m, a total of 9.5km. this race forms part of the IMRA Irish championships.

The BHAA 5m road race saw a big field of 220 runners with ever consistent Paul Fleming first club runner home in 10th place and category wins for Claire Shields, Paul, Colm Murray and Gerry Boyle.

The Rathfarnham Women's Team won the BHAA 24/25 Winter League, under the name Stronger with Esther, seen above collecting their trophy... but.. where is Esther??

Down south in Cork marathon we had Martin Kitson and Martin Kelly (taking M65 first) with runs of 2.58 and 3.30 respectively and Catherine Kelly running half marathon in 2 hours.

VHI mini marathon. Aisling O Connor was first club runner home on Sunday 1st June in the VHI mini marathon. Well done to all.

Another busy week for club athletes on the roads and on tracks. Tuesday evening 20th May 2025, saw the Tom Brennan 5k road race where Dermot Shields fresh from Wicklow Way endeavours was 1st club runner home in 17.16 followed by Ronan Byrne 19.03 and Michael Stewart 19.50.

The club juveniles took centre stage on the weekend 24 - 25th May with 60 boys and girls competing in Dublin track and field championships at Santry and Tallaght. Some impressive performances with Ellie Oldrey taking 250m u15 hurdles gold and Lucy Blessington u14 800m and Calum Kelly u17 boys 300h Silver medals and Sarah Murphy u19 400m H and Aoibheann Nic Mathuna u15 shot put getting bronze medals. These athletes now progress to National championships in Tullamore at the end of June.

Also in action at the weekend with notable results were Kevin Donagher taking the win at the Grocers 4 mile at Leopardstown racecourse and Louis McCarthy 3rd Newry City 10km and David Power, 4th, Calcutta Run 10km, Phoenix Park.

Overseas we had Cillian McCabe run 50.28s in 400m and Stephen Gaffney run 10.75s over 100m at the IFAM meet in Brussels.

We also had Aoibheann Nic Mhathuna qualify for All Ireland Schools in the Junior girls Shot Putt. 2nd place finish in Leinster and she now joins Ryan and Ellie in Tullamore for National Schools Finals next weekend and we wish them good luck.

At the third Dublin Graded Meeting on the Tallaght track on Wednesday 21st May 2025, we had some notable runs by our athletes. Paul Stephenson won bronze in the Dublin Championships 10,000m in a time of 35.04 and Alexy Marchenko was 4th in 35.14. In the 400m Cillian McCabe won the Dublin Championships bronze medal in 50.75 and Callum Kelly ran 59.68. In the womens 400m Orla Murray ran 1.23 and Vanessa Sallier ran 1.26. In the Hammer Vanessa threw 21.48M. In the mens mile Jared Murray ran 4.28 and Aiden O'Connor ran 4.53. In the womens mile Louise Gaffney was first home in 5.27, followed by Aisling O'Connor in 5.43 and Caitriona Dowling ran 5.54, in her come back race. Well done to all. At the National 5k Championships in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 17th May we had 17 competitors. First home was Shane O'Neill in 16.12. Shane was followed by Paul Fleming 16.37 and Sean McCreery 17.38. Shane, Paul and Sean won gold in the M50+ team category. Next came David Reidy 17.41, Michael Murphy 17.52, Colm Murray 18.04, Louise Gaffney 18.47, Aisling O'Connor 19.18, Ronan Byrne 19.22, Gerry Boyle 19.35, Richard Deeney 19.34, Caitriona Dowling 20.08, Alexander Dunne Martin 19.57, Donna Mahon 20.54, Sheelagh Jones 21.17, Ester Lawlor 21.52 and Vanessa Sallier 22.27. The results show that Rathfarnham WSAF AC won silver in the F50+ (Donna, Sheelagh and Vanessa) and silver in F35+ (Louise, Caitriona and Sheelagh). TThe M35+ team were 9th. Well done to all who ran.

A busy week for club athletes aside from Wicklow Relay and National 5k road championships. In the Leinster schools finals Ryan O Neill finished 2nd in the senior boys 1500m and Ellie Oldrey finished 1st in Junior Girls 200m and 2nd in hurdles and both advance to National Schools finals in Tullamore in a few weeks time, good luck to both. We also had Aoibheann Nic Mhathuna qualify for All Ireland Schools in the Junior girls Shot Putt, 2nd place finish in Leinster.

Club runners took part in Wednesday’s BHAA 5k beach run in Sandymout with Colm Murray winning M55 anc Vanessa Sallier 2nd in F50.

In the Tullamore May Open today Cillian McCabe competed in 400m hurdle finishing 56.8s

Over East coast Stateside, Patrick Hickey ran a fine 800m PB of 1.58.6.

At the Bear organised Half Marathon in Clondalkin on Sunday 18th May, Amy Cooke in her first run on returning to the Club, ran 1.42 to finish strongly as 13th woman home. Well done to all.

Report from Wicklow Way Relay, Saturday 17th May 2025

Rathfarnham WSAF AC continued a 20+ year record in the 22nd Wicklow Way Relay on Saturday 17th May 2025. The green and black team finished 3rd after the 8 runners had covered over 100km in over 8 hours. First timers on the team were Patrick Macgabhann, Dermot Shiels and Gráinne Black, who did really well. The usual drama and intrigue was woven into a hot sunny day across the Garden County. Team captain John McAuley lined up a solid team, with lots of experience. Clare Shiels, Louis McCarthy, David Power and Marc Fitzachry held their place. Ciarán Aylward was the team's essential volunteer. Well done to East Cork AC for taking the win for the 3rd year. Other Rathfarnham club members running included Laura Flynn and Paul Stephenson.

Juvenile Membership full as of April 2026

Report from the races over weekend 09 - 11 May 2025

A busy weekend for our club athletes on the roads and tracks gave us some excellent performances. Friday evening 9th May saw the Le Cheile 5k road race in Leixlip where ever green Mark Ryan came home in 3rd place with an impressive time of 15.26 and Dermot Shields winning M50 and remarkably just 2 weeks from Hamburg marathon, breaking 17min for first time (16.58).

Saturday 10th May saw almost 50 of our juvenile girls and boys competing in Dublin league in Santry jumping in and out of a ton of events - high jump, long jump, javelin, discus , 60/80/800 races. Great to see the aspiring athletes trying everything and practicing for their Dublin championships competing ahead of the championship races.

Also on Saturday Paul Fleming sent out 3 of his emerging track athletes and all 3 came away with PBs with Ryan O Neill running Irish Milers race series in Belfast 1500m in 3.54. In Dublin Graded races in Santry Jarrod Murray lowering his 1500m time to 4.02 and Aidan O Connor dropping his 5000m time to 16.46. Aisling O Connor took the Dublin 5000m race in 19.20.

Finally lots of club participants in Terenure 5m on Sunday 11th May notably Patrick MacGabhann 7th overall 26.15 and Colm Murray first M55 30.29 and Martin Kelly 31.52 first M65 and Claire Shiels 34.15 F45 and W40 team first place comprised Claire Sheils, Grainne Black and Lian Brady. Well done all and good luck next weekend to club runners in Wicklow Way Relays and National 5k road championship.

Well done to all our athletes who competeted in the Dublin Graded Meeting 2 at Morton Stadium, Santry on Sunday 11th May 2025. Pride of place goes to Aisling O'Connor who won gold in the 5,000m Dublin Championships in 19.20 and Jared Murray who won silver in the 1,500m Dublin Championships in 4.02. Aiden O'Connor ran 16.46 in his 5,000m. In the 200m Isabelle Doyle ran 25.71 and Vanessa Sallier 38.40. Cillian McCabe ran 22.96 in his 200m and Callum Kelly ran 25.65. In the Javelin Isabel Mullarney threw 28.24 to win the bronze medal in the Dublin Championships and Vanessa Sallier threw 11.69. Well done to all.

Well done to all our athletes who took part in the first Dublin Graded Meeting in the Morton Stadium on Sunday 03 May 2025. In the womens 3,000m Aisling O'Connor ran 10.57, Louise Gaffney 11.12, Sophie McGrath 11.53 and Kate Connolly 12.47. In the mens 3,000m Mick Murphy 10.20, David Reidy 10.27 and Tom Cuddy 10.54. Stephen Gaffney ran in the 100m as did Orla Murray. Orla also competed in the shot putt, long jump and high jump where she won a Dublin Championships bronze medal. Isabel Mullarney also competed in the shot putt and won the bronze medal in the Dublin Championships with a throw of 8.79m. National title for M50+ Team at National Road Relays, Raheny, 27 April 2025 and Marathon results

NATIONAL M50 ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONS

Fantastic running in the National Road Relays on Sunday 27th April 2025 in Raheny, with our M50 team taking National Gold. In the 1st leg over 1 mile Sean McCreery stuck with the hot pace in the lead pack, running 5.25. On the 2nd leg over 2 miles Shane O'Neill stretched out into a clear second place in 10.30. On the 3rd leg over 1 mile Paul Fleming Reeled in the leader and stormed to a terrific win in 4.59. Celebrations on the double for birthday boy Paul on the day.

At the Hamburg marathon on Sunday 27th April Ross Griffin ran 3:01, Colly Murray ran 3:03 and Denis Daly ran 3:16. In the Boston marathon on Monday 21st April Jos Lawlor came home in 3:10. Well done to all.

Tallaght 5k Road Race, Sunday 17th March 2025

We had some great runs in the Tallaght 5k on Monday 17th March. First home was Liam Dunne in 16.45, followed by Dermot Shiels 17.29, Michael Murphy 17.38, David Reidy 17.47, Colm Murray 18.27, Laura Ryan 18.28, Aisling O'Connor 18.41, Tom Cuddy 18.58, Clare Shiels 20.56 and Grainne Black 21.58. In the Dublin Novice Road Championships our mens team (Liam Dunne, Dermot Shiels, Michael Murphy, David Reidy) were 5th team.

At the Mullingar Half Marathon on 17th March, David Power was 7th in 74.29. Well done to all.

Bohermeen Half Marathon and other races on 08 - 9 March 2025

At the Bohernameen half marathon on Sunday 09 March, we had a big club entry with Matthew Kane the leading club runner in 14th place overall. Bohermeen was tough even though it's flat and there's no wind on the course. Some PBs were set and the times were Matthew Kane 1.11, David Power 1.15, Gael Hernandez 1.18, Dermot Shiels 1.22, Colm Murray 1.22, Martin Kitson 1.22, David REIDY - 1.24, Jos Lalor 1.26, Micheál MURPHY 1.27, Gavin Murphy 1.27, Martin Kelly 1.28, Denis DALY - 1.30, Michael STUART -1.37, John MC CABE - 1.45 and Catherine Kelly 1.59. Great running everyone!

Some other noteworthy results over the weekend (08 - 09 March) from Rathfarnham WSAF members were Jared Murray continues his comeback with a fine 6th place at the National Indoor 800m in Athlone with a fast time of 1m 56s.. Tom Cuddy took gold in National masters Indoors M65 3000m in 11m 13s. Paul Fleming took 3rd place at the concluding BHAA xc race in ALSAA.

And down in Sydney, Australia 2 times National senior women’s 1500m champion, Carla Sweeney posted a PB of 2m 45s on the track over 1000m. Think about that folks next time doing 1k reps. Great running all

All Ireland Schools Cross Country, Galway Racecourse, 08 March 2025

This Saturday the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country took place in Galway where close to one thousand secondary school athletes took part in the climax of the All Ireland schools cross country races over four age groups. The venue was on the famous Galway, Ballybrit race course. The Fianna Fáil tent and helicopters may have been missing by the atmosphere was electric with the country’s best young athletes vying for much coveted national medals. Rathfarnham WSAF had 2 athletes, Fionán O'Keeffe and Ryan O Neill running for Terenure College in the opening boys minors and closing boys seniors races.

The minor boys race was the typical frantic dash from the gun with Fionán O'Keeffe digging in to produce a very impressive 8th place finish. In the concluding senior race Ryan O Neill was at the business end from the first lap and the initial lead group of 10 soon whittled down to 6. Ryan despite a fall on the 3rd last corner while in 4th, somehow got back on his feet and kept his head to take 3rd and secure a brilliant podium finish. Fantastic running lads and a credit to your coaches, families and school.

National Masters Cross Country Championships, Westport, Sunday 09 February 2025

At the All Ireland Cross Country races in Wesport on Sunday 09 February 2025 we had some fine performances by our masters teams who brought home several all Ireland Medals. In the M65+ race Tom Cuddy was 2nd home overall and 2nd M65 category. Tom was followed by Donal Murphy 12th and 9th M65, John McHugh 13th and 9th M65 and Terry Clarke 17th and 10th M65. Tom, Donal and John won team Gold in the M65 and also scored on the Dublin Gold medal winning team. Next up was the Masters F50+ Women's race. First home was Donna Mahon 58th and 7th F50, followed by Sheelagh Jones 78th and 1st F65, Vanessa Sallier 94th and 9th F50 and Helen French 112th and 12th F50 to bring our F50+ team homein 4th position. Donna and Sheelagh scored on the Dublin silver medal winning team. In the Masters Men M35+ race Mark Ryan was 5th and 1st M45, followed by Matthew Kane 8th and 5th M40, Louis McCarthy, 16th and 8th M40 and David Power, 21st and 10th M40. These 4 lads took home the M35+ Club silver medal, while Mark, Matthew and Louis scored on the Dublin Gold medal winning team. Well done to all. Leinster Schools Cross Country Races - January 2025

Whilst the club xc season concluded prior to Christmas the school xc season has just begun with Leinster Schools South, West and East Cross Country Championships taking place in January in Phoenix Park with over 2,000 athletes taking part.

The Schools Cross Country Championships allow athletes to swap their club singlets and represent their schools. The age groups include: Minor (Under 14), Junior (Under 15), Intermediate (Under 17) and Senior (Under 19). Many of Ireland’s top long-distance runners have competed in the Leinster Schools Cross Country Championship, using it as a stepping stone to national and international success. Placing in first 12 in regional race qualifies athletes for the Leinster Schools Final on 12 February with the opportunity then to qualify for National Schools Finals in Galway on 8 March.

Well done to all club athletes who competed with some fine qualifying performances including Fionnan O Keeffe 1st Minor Boys, Ryan O Neill 2nd Senior Boys, Amelia Byrne 5th Junior Girls, Lucy O Neill 10th Inter Girls Sarah Murphy 11th Senior Girls and Aidan O Connor 12th Senior Boys. These athletes can next look forward to upcoming provincial final.

On Sunday 19th January 2025 we had 5 athletes who traveled to the LEINSTER INTERMEDIATE & MASTERS XC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 in Offaly on Saturday 18th January 2025. In the Masters race Donna MAHON ran 6:49 (F50), Sheelagh JONES - 17:28 (F60), Vanessa SALLIER - 17:53 (F50) and Helen FRENCH - 19:09 (F50). Dublin Masters XC - Medals from the mud

Cross country runners are a hardy bunch and the Dublin intermediate and masters cross country championships proceeded yesterday on a bitterly cold, wet and muddy St Anne’s Park. Dublin Masters xc medals are hard won and casting aside the festive season excesses it proved to be a fruitful day for the Rathfarnham athletes. Great credit again to Raheny Shamrocks who never fail to deliver big championship occasions and always greatly supported by their local athletic mad community making for wonderful exciting championship atmosphere. The traditional course had been revised taking in the Clontarf sea facing aspect and incorporating a testing course featuring 2 descendent and climbs which cut up as the afternoon wore on making for proper cross country be brave and keep on your feet conditions.

In the team events Rathfarnham took home Gold Team medals in M35 (Mark Ryan, Mathew Kane, David Power and Louis McCarthy) and M65 (Tom Cuddy, Sean Doyle and Donal Murphy) and Silver Team medals in F50 (Donna Mahon, Vanessa Sallier and Sheelagh Jones. So team medals in 3 of the 6 team events!

It was the intermediate women who are first into the fray with sole intermediate runner Laura Mills getting the Club rolling. Well, in fact Adam Jones, Owen and PJ were on course some hours earlier strategically setting up Club team and facilities and club athletes are appreciative of their work, thank you lads. The first of the Masters races was the combined W50 plus and M65 race over 3000m, with the weather conditions now worsening as the rain was now lashing down and the course gradually turning into pretty much a mud bath. In this combined race Donna Mahon ran a fine race to finish 2nd in F50 and take silver and Sheelagh Jones going one better winning Gold in F65. Special mention to club stalwart Jackie Kingston digging herself out of the Dublin mountain snow and finishing a fine 4th. In the M65 race Tom Cuddy had a great battle to the line with Sportsworld ultimately winning Silver medal with Sean Doyle taking Bronze medal in 3rd. Next up were the M50 and F35 races with Sean McCreery taking Silver in M55 category and Laura Ryan taking Bronze in F35.

The final race on the card was the fiercely competitive men’s M35 plus race and after relentless rain and the previous 5 races the course was an absolute mud bath by this stage. Mark Ryan however made light of the conditions finishing 2nd overall against his younger rivals and taking Gold in M45 category. Great credit also to Mathew Kane finishing 4th overall taking Silver in M40. Alexey Marchenko better known for his marathon exploits ran a great race to take Silver in M35 category.

In the battle for the Masters overall Pat Hooper Cup and despite the heroic efforts over the last few weeks of Team Supremo Owen McLoughlin, hosts Raheny Shamrocks prevailed by 3 points ahead of Clonliffe and 5 points ahead of Rathfarnham. This was a well marshalled club effort with 45 club athletes defying atrocious weather conditions and giving their all. “if we can winter this out, we can summer anywhere!” So a fine start to the year for club athletes with easier days ahead. Next up is the national intermediate and masters championships taking place in Westport on 9 February.

We had a huge club entry for the annual Jingle Bells 5k on Sat on a very wild and windy day in the Phoenix Park.

National Juvenile and Novice XC Championships

A busy day for Rathfarnham athletes in Tramore, County Waterford today at the National Juvenile Uneven age group and Novice Cross Country Championship. Fionan O'Keeffe was first out in boys U15 racing up a year ran a very commendable 38th out of 138 qualified athletes.

Next up in boys U17 we had Aidan O'Connor running well up the field throughout to take 21st place.

Ryan O'Neill was our final juvenile athlete out and was running his final club XC race as a juvenile as he moves to junior category in January. Fittingly he delivered his best performance to date taking 4th place to earn a precious individual national medal. This was Ryan’s first national cross country medal and demonstrates his ongoing improvement. Ryan also lead home the Dublin team to take County and Provincial gold medals.

The XC participation of all club juvenile athletes the past few months will provide them with an invaluable strength and endurance base for the forthcoming indoor and out door track season.

In the women’s novice race the Rathfarnham team finished 14th overall lead by Aisling O Connor with a fine 18th place finish and backed up by Grainne Black, Laura Mills and Louise Cassidy. John Macaulay was the sole men’s runner.

Well done all participants today.

In other news in the BHAA 6k XC race in Tallaght Jared Murray continued his competitive return taking a comfortable win whilst Laura McDonnell took the win in the ladies race. Terrific results.

VALENCIA MARATHON

We had a terrific Rathfarnham WSAF representation for the Valencia Marathon yesterday with 6 athletes travelling to sunny Spain. Colm Murray was our first finisher in 2:59:13, and of particular note, Martin Kelly clocked a new PB of 3:09:23 after breaking his foot before last year’s Valencia!

Rathfarnham WSAF is delighted to announce our new Club President, Mr John McHugh.

Voted in as President at the AGM on Nov 26th for the next 3 years, John been running with the club for over 30 years winning many Dublin, Leinster and National medals.

John is a wonderful juvenile coach and is very dedicated to helping our younger members improve and reach their athletic potential. Hugely popular with parents, coaches and the juveniles he coaches, he also has a bike, but we’ll say no more about that!

John takes over the role from Jackie Kingston, our President for the last 3 years, who was unwaveringly dedicated to the role and always had the best interests of the Club and it’s members forefront in everything she did. A huge thank you to Jackie who continues in her role as Juvenile Coach.

DUBLIN JUVENILE CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

Rathfarnham Athletics volunteers were out early this morning as the club hosted the final round 3 of the Dublin Athletics Juveniles XC series on the hallowed Tymon Park.

Adam Jones as always designed an imaginative series of laps to cater for ages U9s through to U19s. Stormy conditions prevailed but all in all a wonderful November morning in west Dublin and congratulations to Adam and his merry band for facilitating a great days XC racing. The league events are a wonderful opportunity for aspiring young athletes to find their way on their athletics journey.

Rathfarnham coaches had a record of over 40 juveniles running today (including a happy bunch of U10 girl’s and coaches John McHugh and Jackie Kingston pictured) with some notable individual performances including U9 girls winner Holly O'Donnell, U12 2nd Lainey Sheridan and U17 boys winner Aidan O'Connor. There were great efforts across all club representatives and great to see participation as progression comes at different stages for juvenile runners.

Whilst this brings XC season to an end for most athletes we will send 3 qualifiers south next weekend to the National Uneven XC championships in Tramore racecourse in Waterford. Fionan O'Keeffe U15, Aidan O'Connor U17 and Ryan O'Neill U19 will all have the opportunity to test themselves against Irelands best young athletes and we wish them well.

Rathfarnham WSAF’s David Scanlon brought home the clubs first Senior Men’s gold medal in the Dublin Cross Country Championships yesterday, a fantastic and well deserved achievement. Huge congratulations to David who has come through the club’s juvenile programme and is a great example to all our junior athletes.

Hot on his heels thought is Ryan O’Neill, bronze medal in the MJ race and 1st in U19 category! A terrific result, well done Ryan. And another bronze medal for the Senior Men’s team of David Scanlon, Mitchell Byrne, Mark Ryan, and David Power, followed closely by Paul Fleming, Ciaran Alyward, and Jonathon Hughes. Laura Ryan has a great run in the Senior Women’s race, 12th overall.

Meanwhile, Aisling O’Connor travelled to Wicklow for the Leinster Senior Cross Country Championship, coming 13th.

Gold for David Scanlon at Dublin Senior Cross Country Championships

It was a great day for Rathfarnham WSAF AC at the City West Campus at the Dublin cross country championship on Sunday 03 November 2024. David Scanlon created club history with a brilliant run just of the pace to hunt down his Clonliffe and DSD opponents on the final and 5th lap of a gruelling course, making a decisive move and made to work all the way running strongly to the line. This win for David represented a first ever Dublin men’s senior xc gold medal success for Rathfarnham. Dave also led a wonderful team performance taking bronze medal behind Clonliffe and DSD, backed by Mitchell Byrne, Mark Ryan, David Power, Paul Fleming, Ciaran Aylward and Jonny Hughes.

In the preceding race Junior athlete Ryan O Neill continued his progressive form producing a stunning performance to take a memorable win in the ultra-competitive boys U19 Dublin Championship and place 3rd in the combined race with U20 event. Laura Ryan took to the start for women’s senior event finishing with a commendable 12th place finish.

Some notable performances from club juveniles with qualifiers now looking forward to contesting forthcoming national championships in Enniskillen and Tramore in the coming weeks. Thanks to club officials on the day John, Terry, Orla, Ilona, Patrick, willing parents and young Adam!

In a club first, Rathfarnham WSAF participated in the National League today, and it was the ladies who took part in 15 events. They came 9th overall, which means they qualified for the division 1 final.

At the Leinster Track & Field Championships in Tullamore over 25 – 26 May 2024, we had several excellent performances. In the senior 5000m Daire Sullivan won the silver medal in 15.46. Isabelle Doyle won bronze in the senior 200m in 26.87 and was 6th in the 100m in 12.39. In the 1,500m Paul Fleming was first in M45 category in 4.35 and Vanessa Sallier was third in W50 in 6.00. At the National 5k Road Championships in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 19th May 2024 we had 10 competitors. Our Mens 35 + team won the national bronze medal and was made up by Kevin Donagher (15.42), Paul Fleming (16.26) and Dermot Shiels (17.43). They were followed by Michael Murphy (18.17), Aisling O’Connor (18.19), Colm Murray (18.19), Laura Ryan (18.36), Edwin Keville (19.15), Martin Kelly (19.45) and Vanessa Sallier (21.31). Our Women’s team (Aisling, Laura, Vanessa) were 7th and our Men’s 50+ team (Dermot, Colm, Edwin) were 6th. Well done to all.

Well done to all our athletes who ran in the National Road Relays in Raheny on Sunday 28th April 2024 over a one mile loop. The senior mens team ran a 2, 1, 3 and 2 miles relay. Our senior team was made up by Mitchell Byrne, Darragh Sullivan, David Scanlon and Louis McCarthy who ran 38.38 for the 8 miles and were 8th out of 32 teams. All the other teams ran a 1,2 and 1 mile relays. Our Senior women comprising Laura McDonnell, Carla Sweeney and Edel McCreery were 5th and our second senior team made up by Sarah Anne Murphy, Aisling O’Connor and Clare Shiels were 21st out of 26 teams. Our masters women 50+ team comprising Nuala Dervan, Vanessa Sallier and Zoe Melling were 6th out of 11 teams. Our Masters 50+ team, comprising Dermot Shiels, Sean McCreery and Pearse Coyle were 6th out of 14 teams, while our M35+ team, made up by John McCauley, Gael Hernandez and Jonathan Hughes were 8th out of 17th teams. Twenty four members ran in the National 10k Road Championships which was run in conjunction with the Dunboyne 10k on Suday 24th March 2024. Our senior men’s team, which was made up by Mitchell Byrne (6th in 30.26), David Scanlon (11th in 30.41), Louis McCarthy (27th in 32.06) and Kevin Donagher (30th in 32.16) took the National senior team title. Our M35+ team was made up by Alexy Marchenko 32.38, Gael Hernandez 34.52 and Ciarnan Aylward, 35.01 were 9th out of 44 teams. Our M50+ team was made up by Dermot Shiels 37.36, Colm Murray 37.47 and Denis Daly 39.36 were 7th out of 17 teams. Our F35 team (Laura Ryan 39.01, Clare Shiels 43.36 and Donna Mahon 44.00) were 10th out of 32 teams. Well done to Adam Jones and Enda Fitpatrick, DCH for developing an excellent cross country course for the All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in Tymon Park on Saturday 9th March. Adam and Enda spent several weeks designing the course and they ensured it was well tested out by running our Saturday morning cross country training session on it for the past weeks. Many thanks to all the Club members who worked very hard in setting up the course from 8.00 that morning and taking it down after the races. Well done to Club member Edel McCreery who came 5th in the Senior Girls race, while representing Loreto High School Beaufort.

National Masters and Intermediate Cross Country Championships, Dundalk, Sunday 11th February 2024

Well done to all our athletes who ran in the National Masters and Intermediate Cross Country races on a very muddy Dundalk UIT course on Sunday 11th February 2024. Pride of place goes to Eoin Flynn who came 4th in the M35+ race and Aisling O’Conner who came 6th in the Intermediate Womens Race. Eoin was supported by Louis McCarthy 20th, David Power 25th and Matthew Keane 34th to take the 4th Club team position. Eoin scored on the Dublin team which won gold and he won silver in his M40+ Category. Also running well in the M35+ race were Paul Fleming, Marc Fitzachary, Jonathan Hughes, Greg Byrne and Pearse Coyle. In the M65+ race John Mc Hugh, Terry Clarke and Don O’Carroll ran well to just miss out in the Club team medals and finished 4th. John and Terry won Gold on the Dublin County team. In the womens masters race Donna Mahon, Helen French and Vanessa Sallier all ran well. Donna won gold on the Dublin County team. Leinster Masters and Intermediate Cross Country, Avondale, Rathdrum, Sunday 21st January 2024

Well done to all our athletes who competed in the Leinster Masters Cross Country races in Avondale, Rathdrum on Sunday 21sth January 2024. Highlights included Paul Stephenson winning the M35+ race and Laura McDonnell, second in the W35+ race. The M35+ team won silver medal and comprised Paul Stephenson 1st, Louis McCarthy 5th, David Power 10th and Paul Fleming 22nd. They were supported by Matthew Keane, Marc Fitzachary, Greg Byrne and Ciaran Aylward. In the W35+/50+ race Laura was 2nd, while the W50+ team took silver with Donna Mahon, Clare Shiels, Vanessa Salliers and Helen French all packing well. The M65+ team of John McHugh, Terry Clarke and Don O’Carroll also won team silver. In the Womens Intermediate race Aisling O’Connor was 5th. Well done to all. The mens team was led home by Mitchell Byrne in 2nd place in 14.43. Ryan O’Neill was 10th in 15.57, Lee Byrne 21st in 16.39, Paul Fleming 22nd in 16.42, Patrick Hickey 23rd in 16.42, Vanessa Sallier (22.04) and Jackie Kingston (25.06). Well done to all 23 of our athletes who ran in the Jingle Bells 5k in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 02 Dec. 2023. Mitchell Byrne ran the race of his life in winning the race in 14.13. He was closely followed by David Scanlon in 4th place in 14.22. Next home was Louis McCarthy in 32nd who ran 15.34 and along with Mitchell and David, made up our senior team who won the senior men’s team prize. Ryan O’Neill ran 15.39 and was 2nd Junior home. Well done to our athletes who ran in the National Cross Country Championships in Gowran, Co Kilkenny on Sunday 19th November 2023. Our senior men’s team came 11th. over a very muddy 9,000m. course. David Scanlon was first home for the Club in 43rd. position, Mitchell Byrne was 45th, Paul Stephenson 62nd., David Power 143rd, Lee Byrne 166th and Jonathan Hughes 176th. Aisling O’Connor ran in the senior women’s race over 9,000m and was 44th.

In the Under 20 race Edel McCreery was 53rd. Well done to all.

Well done to our athletes who ran in the Dublin Cross Country Championships in very muddy conditions in Santry on Sunday 05 November 2023. In the senior mens race over 9,000m David Scanlon came second, to bring the Club home in the silver team medal position. David was followed by Mitchell Byrne (5th), Paul Stephenson (6th), Louis McCarthy (21st), David Power (27th), Paul Fleming (30th), Patrick Marjolet (34th), Ciaran Aylward (37th), Jonathan Hughes (39th) and Sean McCreery (43rd). In the Under 19 Girls race Edel McCreery came first and she came second in the Junior (Under 20) race. Jared Murray was 16th in the Junior Mens Race and Ryan O’Neill 17th (and 9th in the Under 19 race). Aisling O’Connor ran in the Womens senior race over 9,000m and came 15th. Well done to all. Rathfarnham WSAF AC was well represented at the Dublin City Marathon 2023 on Sunday 29th October with 17 finishers from the Club. The Club was led home by Eoin Flynn in a time of 2.33. Eoin was followed by Mark Fitzachary (2.45), Rodney Doyle (3.00), Declan Quinn (3.05), Colm Murray (3.06), Richard Deeney (3.11), Donna Mahon (3.25), Edwin Keville (3.27), Cormac O’Reilly (3.28), Lorraine Nolan (3.28), Sean McCarron (3.28), Ester Lawlor (3.28), Denis Everett (3.29), Denis Daly (3.32), Helen French (3.43), Richard Redmond (3.59) and Eric Cullen (4.02). The Dublin Marathon doubles up as the National and the Dublin County Championships for the Marathon in 2023 and we hope to win several national and county medals. These results are not to hand yet. Well done to all our Club novice runners who ran in the Dublin Novice Cross Country races in Tymon Park on Sunday 08th October 2023. In the second Dublin Juvenile CC League Edel McCreery won the Under 19 Girls race. Ryan O’Neill was first and Charlie Morris McGill was third in the Under 19 Boys race. Our Novice Womens team was 9th and was made up by Clare Shiels (31st), Louise Gaffney (48th), Orla Murray (56th) and Lian Brady (64th). The mens team was 10th and was made up by Jared Murray in 9th, who was followed by Sean McCreery (48th), John McCauley (63rd), David Reidy (73rd) and Barry Mulvhill (102nd). Well done to all.

With 997 finishers out of 1,300 entries, the Club had a record entry of 24 finishers at the Rathfarnham 5k on Sunday 24 ^th September. First home was David Scanlon 3 ^rd in 14.38, followed by Mitchell Byrne 5 ^th in 14.48. Next came our super Juniors Jared Murray 26 ^th in 15.47 and Ryan O’Neill 30 ^th in 15.51. Paul Fleming ran 16.35 and was first in M45 category. Carla Sweeney was 1 ^st woman home for the Club in 16.38 and was 4 ^th woman home. Ciaran Awylard ran 17.02, Jonathan Hughes ran 17.26, David Sato (Junior) ran 17.31, Aiden O’Connor 17.35 and David Reedy 17.47. They were followed by super Juniors Clara Kinsella in 17.58 and Edel McCreery in 18.02. Edwin Keville ran 18.16 and was first in M55 and was followed by Aisling O’Connor 18.22, Peter Toomey 18.45, Alice Hickey (Junior) 19.16, Barry Mulvhill 20.10, Daire Sullivan 21.49, Bernard Murray 22.53, Niamh Hickey 23.54, Paul O’Keeffe 24.00, Quentin Comerford 25.13 and Linda Lynch 25.33.

The men’s team won and comprised David, Mitchell, Jared and Ryan. The women’s team were second and was made up by Carla, Clara Edel and Aisling. Clara was also third Junior.

In the Dublin 5k Road Championships our senior team won gold and our M35+ team won bronze. The women’s team won silver. There were also several senior and age category individual medals e.g. David won Dublin Silver and Mitchell won Dublin Bronze medal. The full results are on the Myrunresults website. Well done to all our Juveniles who competed with destinction at various National Juvenile Championships in recent weeks. Pride of place must go to Aoibheann NicMhathuna who won gold in the the Under 13 shotput, throwing 10.87m and Zoie Richie who won the silver medal in the Under 20 800m in a time of 2.14.31. Ryan O’Neill ran very well in his Under 18 800m final to finish 8th in 2.03.5. Zoie Richie won the silver again in her Under 18 800m final in 2.13.20. Edel McCreery ran in the Under 19 800m final and finished 5th in 2.21.77. In the Under 18 3,000m final Clara Kinsella ran 10.54 to finish 6th. At the 6th Dublin Graded meeting on the new DSD track on Wednesday 05 July 2023 there were some notable runs by Rathfarnham Athletes. Catriona Dowling ran well to finish 3rd in the 800m A race in 2.20.96. In the mens 3,000m A race Paul Stephenson was 5th in 8.49. In the 3,000m A race Aisling O’Connor was 4th in 10.58 and just pipped Alice Hickey who was 5th in 10.59. In the B/C 3,000m Mathew Kane ran 9.28, Paul Fleming 9.30, Alfonso Herraro 9.37, John McCauley 10.23 and Barry Mulvhill 12.05. David Scanlon wins bronze in the Irish Runner National 5k Road Championships, Saturday 20th May 2023

David Scanlon led the Club home in 3rd place in 14.58, to win the bronze medal in the National 5k in the Phoenix Park on 20th May 2023. David was followed home by Kevin Donagher in 12th in 15.40, followed by Ciaran Aylward (42nd, 16.35) and Paul Fleming (44th, 16.42) to take bronze team medal in the senior race. Next came Donagh Powell (69, 17.23). The Club also won the bronze M35+ Team medal with Sean McCreery (17.26), Colm Murray (17.46) and Dermot Shiels (17.48). The M50+ team also won the bronze team medal with Pearse Coyle (18.15), Edwin Keville (18.23) and Sean Doyle (19.50). Other good runs were had by Clara Kinsella (18.19), Aisling O,Connor (18.36), Peter Toomey (18.37) and Aifric NiChaoillai (24.29). The womens senior team were 9th. At the Clubs annual dinner and awards cermony 2022 on Friday, 3rd February Carla Sweeney won the overall award and was presented with the Tom O’Driscoll trophy by PJ Claffey, Club Events Manager and Dublin Athletics Chairman. Carla had many great performances throughout the year and particularly winning the National Senior 1,500m track final in Morton stadium in July 2022. Carla also won the Senior Ladies award. Other awards won on the night were David Scanlon (Senior), Shane O’Neill (Masters), Laura McDonnell (Masters), for the most improved athletes during 2022 Aisling O’Connor and Caitriona Dowling and Cillian Mc Cabe (Junior). Dublin Masters Cross Country, St Anne’s Park Raheny, 08 January 2023

The Dublin Masters Cross Country Championships in St Anne’s Park Raheny was another great day for the Club with 29 finishers over four Races with many team and age category prizes coming back to Rathfarnham. We won gold in the M50 race with Shane O’Neill winning the race and he was supported by Sean McCreery 9 ^th ., Colm Murray 10 ^th and Edwin Keville 12 ^th . Other great runs were had by Pearse Coyle, Dermot Shiels and Barry Mulvhill.

The M65 team took gold also with Sean Doyle second, John McHugh 5 ^th , Terry Clarke 9 ^th , Don O’Carroll 12 ^th and Philip Wright 15 ^th .

Louis McCarthy was second in the M35 race and led the team home in third place. Louis was supported by Dave Power 7 ^th , Patrick Marjolet 19 ^th and Greg Byrne 31 ^st . In the same race we had great runs from Ciaran Aylward, Luke Howard, John McCauley, Gael Hernandez, Michael Murphy, Ross Griffin and David Reidy.

In the F50 race Donna Mahon was second and led the team to second place. Donna was supported by Vanessa Sallier 13 ^th , Nuala Dervan 18 ^th and Helen French 35 ^th . Sue Ryan was 41 ^st in the M35 race, while Orla Murray was 59 ^th .

Many individual age category medals were won across all the ages 35+ to 70+. The final results from the Dublin Juvenile Cross Country League 2022 are published on the Dublin Athletics website at https://www.dublinathletics.com/fixtures/senior-fixtures/2022-fixtures/dublin-juvenile-cross-country-league-2022-final-results .

We had some excellent performances by all our Juveniles, with over 40 members running across all the age categories. Pride of place must go to Edel McCreery who won the Girls Under 18 and Ciara Murphy who won out in the Under 17 Girls. Alice Hickey was 5 ^th in the Under 18 Girls. Jodie Richie was 3 ^rd and Sarah Murphy was 10th in the Under 16 Girls. Zoe Richie was 6 ^th in the Under 17 Girls.

In the Under 19 Boys Jared Murray was 4 ^th and Daire Sullivan 5 ^th . At Under 17 Boys Ryan O’Neill was 3 ^rd and Charlie Morris McGill was 4 ^th . At Under 15 Aiden O’Connor was 3 ^rd . Soran Doyle was 4 ^th in the Under 14 Boys. Oisin O’Connor was 19 ^th. Other great Boys performances were at Under 13 – Ronan O’Keefe 12 ^th and at Under 12 Euan O’Neill was 28 ^th. Sean Hanily ran Under 10 and Cormac Newman ran Under 9.

Other good performances were in the Under 14 Girls with Keely Sheridan 4 ^th , Cora Shields 22 ^nd , Alecia Maughan 29 ^th and Mia Whearity 44 ^th . At Under 13 we had Lucy O’Neill, Aibhe Magill and Sara O’Reilly. At Under 12 Girls Winnie Comerford, Elsa Healy, Aoibheann Murray, Lily Lonergan and Maeve McCauley ran well. At Under 11 Girls we had Rosie Shields, Laoise Meaney, Selena Cullen, Alice Griffin, Ryan O’Neill and Aoife Lawlor. At Under 10 Girls we had Lainey Sheridan, Abby Corrigan, Fia O’Connor, Aisling Boland and Ruth McCauley, while at Under 9 we had Rose Healy and Evelyn -Rose O’Keefe.

Well done to all who ran, and we look forward to seeing you at the Indoor track leagues in 2023. Also well done to all the Juvenile coaches and the parents who helped make these performances happen.

Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships and Juvenile League, Tymon Park North, Sunday 11th December 2022

Well done to Aisling O’Connor who won an Individual silver medal in the Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships on a snowy Tymon Park course on Sunday 11th Decwmber 2022. Suzanne Ryan finished 19th in the same 6,000m race and both made light of the difficult underfoot conditions. In the men’s race over 8,000m David Power won the Individual bronze medal. David was followed by Greg Byrne 27th, Luke Howard 28th, Michael Murphy 38th, Dermot Shiels 42nd, Barry Mulvhill 45th and Ronan Byrne 47th.The mens team finished in 5th place, just 5 points from the bronze team medal position. In the last leg of the Dublin Juvenile cross country league Ryan O’Neill had a great win in the Under 17 boys race. The Under 17 Girls also packed well to score some valuable points in the League. National Uneven Age Cross Country, Conna, Co. Cork, Sunday 4th December 2022

At the Uneven Age Cross Country Championships in Cork on Sunday we had 11 Juveniles representing the Club. Pride of place go to Edel McCreery and Alice Hickey in the Under 19 Girls race. in a closely faught battle Edel was 22nd and Alice 23rd. Both Alice and Edel won the silver medal on the Dublin County team and bronze in the Provincial contest. Laoise Crinnion finished 70th in the Under 11 Girls race. Aiden O’Connor was 55th in the Under 15 Boys. In the Under 17 Boys Ryan O’Neill was 32nd and Charlie Morris McGill was 61st in the Under 17 Boys. Our Under 17 Girls team finished 8th and was made up by Clara Kinsella 53rd., Sara Murphy 86th., Caolainn McCabe 97th and Ciara Murphy 102nd. Well done to all who ran.

At the National Cross Country Championships in Rospenna Golf Course on Sunday 20th November 2022, Carla Sweeney was 26th in the senior ladies race and Sorcha Rea was 81st. In the mens senior race over 10,000m Mitchell Byrne was 22nd and scored on the winning Dublin County team. David Scanlon was 32nd and David Power was 100th out of 173 finishers.

In the juvenile races Keely Sheridan was 53rd in the Girls Under 14 race and scored on the Dublin County team which was third. Jodie Richie was 67th in the Under 16 Girls race. In the Girls Under 18 race Clara Kinsella was 48th and scored on the Dublin team which was second. Cohen Doyle was 71st in the Boys Under 14 race.

At the Dublin Cross Country Championships on the City West Campus Course on Sunday 6 ^th Nov., our Juvenile Runners took pride of place and brought home many medals. In the Under 11 Boys we had Theo McGouran and Euan O’Neill and in the Under 11 Girls Louise Crinion and Laoise Meaney ran well. In the Under 13 Girls we had Lucy O’Neill, Ellie Oldrey, Winnie Comerford and Rachael Mulligan and Fionan O’Keefe ran in the Under 13 Boys race. Aiden O’Connor and Fionn Crinion ran for the Under 15 Boys and Neimh Ryan ran in the Under 15 Girls race. At Under 17 we had Zoe Richie, Jodie Richie, Sara Murphy, Rachael Lawlor, Ciara Murphy and Caolainn McCabe, while Ryan O’Neill and Charlie Morris ran in the Under 17 Boys race. In the Under 19 and Junior race Edel McCreery, Alice Hickey and Laura Mills ran well and Jared Murray ran in the Boys Under 19 race. The full results are on the Dublin Athletics website. Those that finished in the first 12 in their respective races will go on to represent the Club at the All-Ireland Cross Country Championships later in the year.

In the Senior Ladies race over 8k Carla Sweeney finished 8 ^th and Aisling O’Connor 18 ^th . In the Senior Men’s race over 10k Mitchel Byrne was first home in 6 ^th , followed by David Scanlon 10 ^th , Paul Stephenson 19 ^th , David Power 23 ^rd , Alexey Marchenko 30 ^th and Ciaran Aylward (38 ^th ). The men’s team just missed out on the prizes in finishing 4 ^th on 58 points, one point behind DSD on 57. The Junior/Under 19 and Senior results are on the Myrunresults website. Report from Autumn Open International Cross Country Festival, Abbotstown, Sunday 16th October 2022

In the Autumn Open International Cross Country races in Abbotstown on Sunday 16th October Mitchell Byrne was our ownly competitor in the Senior Mens Race over 8k. Mitchel finished 11th in 23.15. In the ladies 6k race Carla Sweeney was 14th in 21.44. In the Masters Womens Race Laura McDonnell finished third in 21.53. The full results are on the Myrunresults website.

The masters races serve as a trial for the British and Irish Masters’ International, which will take place in Santry on Saturday, November 12. Laura McDonnell has been selected today (21st October) on the Irish F35 team and Shane O’Neill has been selected on the M50 team. Details will be posted shortly on the IMAA website shortly. Well done to all from the Club who competed at the Graded Meeting No. 8 on Wednesday 3rd August at Lucan track. We had Caitriona Dowling winning the 400m A race in 60.55. Nuala Dervan ran 81.24 in the 400m C race. In the 1 mile race Aisling O’Connor ran 5.48. David Scanlon came second in the A Grade 1 mile race in 4.24. In the same race Shane O’Neill ran 4.35 and Jared Murray ran 4.37. In the B 1 mile race Paul Hickey ran 4.38, Paul Fleming 4.49 and Richard Pollitt ran 4.59. Richard also ran in the 3,000m and finished in 10.11. Ryan O’Neill also ran in the same 3,000m and finished in 9.31. Well done to Aisling O’Connor who won the Dublin Novice 5k Road Race Championships 2022 on Sunday 24th July in a time of 19.06, This Championship race which was held in conjunction with the Tallaght 5k Road Race and finished on the Tallaght track. National 10mile Road Racing Championships 2022

The Irish Runner 10 mile race took part in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 10th July, on a day a bit too warm for PB’s. It incorporated the National 10 mile Road Racing Championships with some great Rathfarnham WSAF AC results. The M35 (Yes M35!!!) team of Colm Murray, Gael Hernandez and Tom Cuddy won the team bronze medal. Colm won the M55 bronze and Tom the M60 silver. Martin Kelly was 4th M60, Brendan Hogan 6th M60 and Cathy Kelly 6th W60. Well done to everybody.
