The beast is a mixed event that was run around the Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal from 2nd to 5th August. It runs a course of about 410km and they say it should take about 48hours, but don’t believe that! There are 4 in a team and all members of the team must be within visual and hearing distance of each other at all times as well as finish together. The winning team included none other than Rathfarnham WSAF AC’s Greg Byrne. He appears normal on the surface but at the moment he is running like the world is about to end. The team won in a time of 51:59:25 breaking the psychological 52hr barrier (I just made that up!). Greg was in great form afterwards having hogged the survival tent for his naps.

Well done to all who took part, I think!

The IMRA Wed night Leinster League concluded on 1 August and the winner was our own Rathfarnham WSAF AC’s Brian Furey. In fact he was actually uncatchable by the July 19th race! The League consists of 13 races. Your best 7 results count. Brian scored 2, 1, 3, 2, 3, 1, 3, 1, 1, 3. This is a very impressive and consistent performance over a period of 13 weeks. Brian's total was 11 points. Next in line was Rathfarnham WSAF AC's Barry Minnock. It was great to see Barry back on the hills. He totalled 18 points and interestingly beat Brian in the last race. Next Rathfarnham runner was Roisin Long in 35th place and 3rd Lady overall - followed by myself in 39th and 4th M50.

Three Rathfarnham runners have been selected for the World Mountain Running Championships to be held in Andorra in September: Eoin Flynn, Mark Ryan and Ruairi Long. See https://www.imra.ie/forum/topic/id/4948. The Worlds involves a very challenging 12 km uphill only course. Ruairi was also selected for the British and Irish Junior Championshipss in Glendalough in September https://www.imra.ie/forum/topic/id/4947
